My "Happy Birthdays"

Free Clipart Picture of a Birthday Cake with Candles. Click Here to Get Free Images at Clipart Guide.com

We take such a lot of effort to celebrate a day that just reminds us that we are one more year older.. and thats our BIRTHDAY!

In school I used to have 3 birthdays.. confused? i'll explain..

i)my real birthday.. my friends wish me on this day.

ii)according to the Malayalam birthstar. My family wish me on this day..

iii)This one needs a little explanation.. since my birthday occcurs during the summer vacation i wud'nt b able to wear colour dress and distribute chocolates in school. So i decided that i would randomnly pick some day before the school closes for the summer vacation and declare that as my birthday in school. So that was my third Birthday..

On that day i would go to school wearing a new dress and my whole class would stand up and sing 'Happy B'day to you..' as i stood beaming in front of them. Then i would give chocolates to my classmates, principal and teachers.. everyone would wish me as i walk through the corridors.. One of my favourite teachers always gave me a fat kiss on both the cheeks and said," Happy Birthday my dear girl". Even in school bus all the kids would come n wish me[only for chocolates, though!] . Hence this was my most special BIRTHDAY!!

!?!$%

dear blog...
u r a delightful creation.. u r like a magic board on which i can scribble anything n it is visible to anybody across the world beyond all the political, social, economic, cultural and geographic barriers(provided they hav access to internet!).. one of the prodigies of our technological advancements..
we have in our hands what was unimaginable to our ancestors.. now the world seems to be shrinkin day by day.. places we considered very far do not seem so far anymore.. we are living in one global village! I think we are blessed to b living in the times of change.. even the cultural barriers are slowly disappearing.. the young urban Indian population follows the Indo-Western culture[but with varying percentages of Indian and Western culture;)].. and thats not something to b criticed at all coz when the whole world is changing you cannot cling on to your primitive ideas.. if our country has to develop we should be able to accept knew ideas.. we should b able to adapt to changes and not be resistant to it. Oops! where did i begin and where did i end up!! I don knw what Im trying to say.. these days I think Im like that!!

lots of love...

Seven Ages of Man

This is the famous monologue from William Shakespeare's As You Like It, spoken by Jaques
.

"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slipper'd pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side,
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything."Jaques (Act II, Scene VII, lines 139-166)

My 'Poster guy'!

It was really heart-breaking to see Roger Federer break down after losing the Australian Open. Poor guy is just one grand slam away from the world record of winning 14 grand slam titles that belongs to Pete Sampras. Bad luck! He is undoubtedly one of the greatest tennis players ever. After all, he was the guy who had inpired me to watch tennis.. once i was fighting wid my bro for the TV remote(as usual!) but he was busy watching Wimbledon finals(don rem which year) and refused to pay ny attention to my constant blabbering.. finally i decided to shut up n watch.Thats wen i saw him.. Roger Federer....It was a treat to watch him play.Ther was something very inspiring abt his game. From then on i used to watch his matches wenever i cud.. and he became my one n only poster guy!
During coll days the only poster i had on my cupboard in hostel was his(had got it from a Sportstar that i found in my bro's room)..I was in search of motivation n had thought that a pic of FedEx in action wud motivate me wen I luked at it every mornin... n besides that i thought it was really cool n everyone wud admire it.. But i had been profoundly mistaken!!
I rarely noticed it amidst the hurry-burry every mornin n most of them who came to our room either did'nt notice it all.... or they wud jus luk at it n ask "who's that?"(disgusting, rite?).

Kudos to Slumdog Millionaire!!

Being a movie buff I could'nt resist the temptation to watch 'Slumdog Millionaire' after all the hype it was getting. It has become like a mantra all over the world.Naturally, controversies followed.I dont understand y people are taking things so seriously. The Joker was right "WHY SO SERIOUS!".After all, its just a movie. It is a piece of art.It is creativity.I think people should just watch it with an open mind.Of course it is not possible for all people to like any movie unanimously!Different individuals have different tastes. So why kick up a fuss.. I dont think the movie had a great storyline or something. The basic concept was the most cliched 'rags to riches' theme but told in a very innovative manner. The direction and screenplay was awesome. And of course A.R.Rahman's music truly captures the soul of the movie and has been integrated well into it.On the whole the movie is well packaged and hence it is going places. This is what I think of it!

Quick Facts

Beware of the keys!!

The keyboard that you r typing on can make u sick.Research shows that some computer keyboards harbour more harmful bacteria than a toilet seat!! It can even cause food poisoning. To prevent this , shake all the dust and food crumbs out of keyboard and wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth.Or disinfect with alcoholic wipes.

U gotta 'big' brain?

According to researchers, if u've got a big brain u are less likely to suffer from Alzheimer's disease.Apparently people with large hippocampus regions have perfect memories even if they suffer from the illness.

Stop taking urself too seriously!!

If u r able to laugh things off without getting too stressed, ur heart is less likely to suffer collapse.Mental stress can also harm the protective lining of the blood vessels, which eventually affect the heart.

The best days of my life!!!

During the second sem in college once i was visiting my grandparents in my native place.I caught fever and had to take rest.It was borin to stay in bed the whole day! Here is something that I had scribbled down then...

As I sit in this crowded little room in a corner of my father’s house I feel the waves of nostalgia striking me. I can see the fields when I peep through the window beside me. The fields are bare now with only grass and weeds in it. It’s not the season for crops, I guess ! Those fields take me down the memory lane …….

Once upon a time I used to play cricket there with my brother, cousins and friends. It was such fun! It was during our school days , that we used to rush to this place when we had the much awaited summer vacation .Then it would be a “hungama” here for more than a month. No classes, no studies, no tuition, no tension! My grandparents had a tough time taking care of us. We used to enjoy ourselves to the maximum- waking up late as no nagging moms would come to wake us up, drawing water from the well to take bath(the water wud b reaaally cold!!), spending half the day in our cricket ground, disturbing all the relatives staying in our neighbourhood... Going for short picnics to nearby places, chatting, chasing hens around the house, plucking seeds and fruits from our backyard and walking around barefooted .There would b jackfruits everywhere.. u get to eat all possible dishes made wid jackfruit until u wont b able to bear the sight of one!! We wud find snakes in the field and run off screaming. We used to see farmers toiling hard in the fields all day under the hot sun… All this much hyped six-pack abs comes to them naturally!! After work my grandma would serve them rice piled up like a small hill in their plates which they ate with the greatest satisfaction.. for them 3 whole meals a day was a great luxury. We played till the twilight after which we wud b steered in. Then we used to gobble up whatever our grandma made for us. Nothing is more tastier than the hot 'n steaming 'kappa and meen curry' . I still find my mouth watering at the thought of the aromatic gravy of my grandma’s fish curry. After devouring our scrumptious meal we slept like logs. Our days were long and nights short….

Now once again the skies are blue and the April flowers have bloomed. The field is free and the pitch is ready. But there are no players and no spectators. Everyone is busy with their own work. Nobody even has a summer vacation. Everyone’s grown up and is busy chasing their dreams and aspirations. They have all outgrown the spirit of summer vacation. But currently sitting in this room and remembering them, I really do miss them. Those days may never come back, its sad to think! But I have those beautiful memories to cherish forever. Wherever I go, whatever I may become, I can never forget the sweet times I have spent here. The smell of this dusty room itself is nostalgic to me.
